    Hey, Kyle! Thanks again, love your tutorials! Step by step Rhino starts to make some sense)) Only problem I had following this was Fillet didn't work for me, trying to use ChainEdges it went partially flipped/inverted/broken... But trick with Pipe-Boolean-Blend worked fine. I'm wondering if there is a tutorial showing how to solve those problems with messy surfaces? How to clean bad topology (when control points are fighting each other), why match surface not working because of trims, kinks, why split/merge sometimes doesn't work... etc. In this video you showed few very useful tricks like that Extend Surface not working because of some invisible trim on pipe object. But problem is it is very hard to find answer like "why my Extend surface is not working?". Google will not find this video on such request... Is there some sort of Rhino golden rules how to avoid such problems?

    Thank you for the video, it was very helpful. I just wanted to ask you a question, I tried following the process and building this along with you but every time I had to add an edge to the SubD (loop or single edge/vertex) it didn’t work. The command would just show the preview of the edge line, but after clicking enter the command would just not work. Do you have any idea on how this is possible? Thank you again!!

    Why materials treated badly in Rhino? I tried adding materials from Vray and closed it, mext time I opened it, one of the material is not shown. I appliad a material, and when I pushpull it, the material is not shown correctly (stretched). Lastly, when there's many material applied to objects, my Rhino become slower. Any explanation please

    Working with subd is very inconvenient. My opinion is that it is better to do the subd in a polygonal program, for example Blender or Cinema4D (where it will be much faster and better), then import it into Rhino and continue working further. And most likely the problem is that you don’t understand topology, otherwise you would have done everything differently from the very beginning, rather than making a bunch of changes just like that. Sorry for my statement...

    Great feature. Maybe one day Grasshopper programs have a clean interface mode. Basically making them component configurators to make an component library with or shared app-store with. That would be less technical and very collaborative.

    I think that the first shape to begin with is a hollow cilinder for wheels. It gives an equal number of polygons to follow on each side so you can controll the overall topology better. The circular shape will look clean and you can also approximate dimensions better. The key of modeling in subd is to know the basic rules of 3d modeling: clean topology, pattern transitions and quads instead of triangles or ngons. For me, the biggest advantage was that I learned 3ds max and blender before.

    An alternative method is to use the "Named CPlanes" panel and directly click on some of the saved CPlanes there. :) ua-cam.com/video/Q9aZVt-1j1s/v-deo.html There are a few advantages of that approach: 1. It works directly in the same viewport. No need to reach different viewports. This way, the viewport could be maximized and even locked, and the trick will still work; 2. It does not need to setup different views preliminary with multiple viewports opened simultaneously; 3. As long as the "Named CPlanes" panel is opened, the selection could be remapped to any saved CPlane in the list, even very far from the camera.

    You fail to mention the cPlane's influence on the direction of the offset. This command gets particularly nasty when the curve being offset is a 3D curve (not flat on one plane). It seems to only work when in Top view (or whatever view is closest to parallel for the ribbon), its not great. Do you mind also explaining what each option within the ribbon offset actually does?

    • @Rhinoceros3d
      @Rhinoceros3d Місяць тому

      The cplane has less of an influence than you might think... the real factor in how well this works is the complexity of the original curve that is offset. If it's returning nasty results, run a rebuild on the curve, drop a few points but don;t go crazy. simply re-parameterizing the curve using rebuild often is enough to clean up any gank in the input curve and return a better result. if you get some nasty results, it's often because the input curve is a mess. SInce we are trying to generate an offset, and since the offset often wants to be less detailed, the rebuild can be super helpful.
